Time Management – Time Wasters

TIME MANAGEMENT- A TOOL TO SUCCESS

Time is our most valuable resource and unless it is managed, nothing can be achieved.  It is self management and requires no qualification or training. It is an art which is very easy to understand but difficult to follow. Keeping track of how one spends time is not time management, but is about making changes to the way to spend time.  The application of carpenter’s rule of “measure twice, cut once” is necessary to be successful in life  To effectively manage the time, it is necessary follow certain values and be disciplined in all activities.  .  Plan the work, write out goals and list the steps to be taken to accomplish the task.

Some of the common time wasters are:

* Feeling over whelmed and anxious about workload.
* Putting off tasks for tomorrow.
* Daydreaming or drifting off.
* Poor planning
* Interruptions
* Socializing, idle conversation.
* Un-clear objectives and priorities
* Stress
* Non-confidence
* Jumping from one task to another leaving the first task unfinished.
* Frequently wasting time by playing cards/games, watching TV, etc.
* Lack of self-discipline,
and so on.

Time is a most valuable resource.  Unless time is managed, nothing else can be managed.  If time gets away, every other part of our life will get away from us too.  Divide seemingly complex tasks into smaller parts.  Set up a time scale and deadline for achieving them.  Action plan and prioritize activities and tasks on a weekly basis.  Mistakes usually happen because of unexpected and unforeseen factors.  With the proper plan and preparation, these unforeseens can be minimized.  Some suitable method should be adopted to reduce stress of any kind as it is a great hindrance during performing effective tasks and hence needs special care and attention.  Complete the first task first and then move to the next task.  In case of urgency try to reschedule the time instead of jumping to the new task.  Make sure to distinguish the goals that are truly important from those that may seem urgent but are really not important.  If one follows these rules, one can achieve his goals in career at all walks of life.
